As part of activities marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Lagos State chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) hosted the Muslim Association of Visually Impaired Modest Ladies (MAMLA) on Saturday, December 7, 2025.
The event, which brought together members of the FOMWAN family and invited guests, was organised to celebrate inclusion, resilience, and the contributions of persons living with disabilities, particularly women. Activities lined up for the day included a moving recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Sister Lateefah Adesope, a visually impaired member, as well as eulogies in praise of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Modiu).
Participants were also treated to a display of products showcasing the skills, creativity, and entrepreneurial abilities of members of the association, reinforcing the message of empowerment and self-reliance.
A major highlight of the programme was a thought-provoking lecture delivered by Sister Aminah Yunus Ali on the theme of the day, which resonated strongly with attendees and sparked meaningful reflections on breaking barriers and promoting dignity for persons with disabilities.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, stakeholders, and members of the FOMWAN Lagos State Chapter, underscoring the organisation’s continued commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and community support for women and girls, including those living with disabilities.
