On Tuesday, September 4, 2025, the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Lagos State Chapter, took its advocacy to the grassroots with a powerful sensitization program on Drug Abuse, Misuse, and Addiction at Oluwaseyi Model Market, Badore, Ajah, in Eti-Osa Local Government.
The bustling market environment provided the perfect setting to reach traders, youths, and community members with timely awareness on the dangers of drug misuse and the ripple effects it has on families and society at large.
During the session, FOMWAN representatives spoke about how seemingly harmless habits can lead to addiction, highlighting the devastating consequences of drug abuse on health, productivity, and moral values. The women also emphasized preventive measures, parental guidance, and community support structures needed to protect the younger generation from falling into substance abuse.
The advocacy sparked meaningful conversations among market women, men, and young people, many of whom expressed appreciation for the initiative. Traders were reminded that beyond earning a living, safeguarding the well-being of their children and neighbors is a shared responsibility.
For FOMWAN Lagos, the outreach at Oluwaseyi Model Market reaffirmed its mission of community education, social reformation, and value-based empowerment—showing once again that lasting change begins with awareness.
