Fomwan Lagos Holds annual Conference at Unilag

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Lagos State Chapter, proudly held its 39th Annual State Conference and Award Ceremony, bringing together influential voices and community leaders for a day filled with meaningful dialogue, inspiring speeches, and well-deserved recognitions.

The event, which took place in an atmosphere of intellectual engagement and community spirit, featured discussions on critical topics affecting society, including national security, women’s empowerment, and poverty alleviation from an Islamic perspective.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Mrs. Halimah Egberongbe emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and unity among women to promote societal progress. She highlighted FOMWAN’s enduring role as a catalyst for positive change in education, welfare, and social development.

Alhaja G. Ayomaya-Oyeniyi, in her thought-provoking session titled “Security of Women: Panacea for National Development,” underscored the direct link between the safety of women and national stability. She called on stakeholders to prioritize women’s protection, noting that empowering and safeguarding women strengthens the foundation for a prosperous society.

Continuing the day’s impactful discussions, Alhaja Kudrah Ogunmuyiwa spoke on “Tackling Poverty and Insecurity: Islamic View.” Her presentation offered insights on leveraging Islamic principles to combat societal challenges, stressing the value of charity, communal responsibility, and justice in reducing poverty and fostering peace.

The conference also featured an award ceremony recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed significantly to societal development and women’s empowerment in Lagos State.

In her closing remarks, the FOMWAN Lagos State Chapter Chairperson expressed gratitude to all attendees and reiterated the association’s commitment to championing development, security, and empowerment for a better society.

The 39th Annual State Conference stood as a testament to FOMWAN’s dedication to driving conversations and actions that shape a secure and inclusive future for women and the larger community.
